Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG)
  • Lap Sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is the most common surgical weight-loss procedure performed over the world.
  • LSG is typically performed laparoscopically, which involves inserting small instruments through 4 small incisions in the upper abdomen.
  • During sleeve gastrectomy, about 70 to 80 percent of the stomach is removed, leaving a tube-shaped stomach about the size and shape of a banana.
  • LSG is a restrictive procedure, after eating a small amount of food, you will feel full very quickly and continue to feel full for several hours.
  • LSG may also cause a decrease in appetite by reducing the amount of “hunger hormone” produced by the stomach which may contribute to weight loss after this procedure.
  • sleeve gastrectomy is recommended for obese patients with BMI more than 35 or patients with BMI 30 to 35 with serious weight -related health problems such as (Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure , severe sleep apnea or infertility)
  • Before your surgery, give your doctor a list of all medicines, vitamins, minerals, and herbal or dietary supplements you take.
  • Surgery usually takes 30 to 45 minutes; discharge home will be next day.
  • You will be required to take a multivitamin and complementary protein for 6 to 12 months.
  • LSG can provide long-term weight loss, it is possible to lose approximately 70 to 80 percent of your excess weight within one year.
  • Many obesity-related comorbidities improve or resolve after bariatric surgery. Diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and abnormal cholesterol levels are improved or cured in more than 95% of patients undergoing LSG.
