Prof. Aayed Alqahtani is a Senior Consultant and Professor of Bariatric Surgery and Endoluminal Bariatric Therapies, and a prominent figure in international scientific forums within this specialty. Commencing his professional career in 2003 in pediatric and minimally invasive surgery, he chaired pioneering workshops and congresses, including the first Middle Eastern workshop for Pectus Excavatum repair (2007) and the inaugural Emirates International Congress of Pediatric Surgery (2008).

Over the years, his clinical focus evolved toward bariatric surgery and endoluminal therapeutics. He has participated in over 198 scientific events across more than 25 countries, serving in various capacities as Congress Chair, Session Moderator, Invited International Speaker, Proctor, and Live Surgery Broadcaster. His engagements feature prominently in leading global societies and congresses, including IFSO, ASMBS, IBC (University of Oxford), IPEG, ESBS, and SASMBS.

In recent years, he has played a pivotal role in training physicians globally on endoscopic suturing techniques (Overstitch) in collaboration with Boston Scientific, championing endobariatric therapy as an essential bridge between pharmacotherapy and surgical intervention.

  • 2003 – 2008: Pediatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery Chaired foundational workshops and congresses, including advanced laparoscopic workshops in Riyadh and Dubai, and robotic pediatric surgery in Dallas (2006).
  • 2009 – 2017: Transition toward Bariatric Surgery Active leadership within IPEG as an Executive and Program Committee member; expanded participation in bariatric congresses across the GCC, Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar.
